들을만한 팝 음악을 탐색하던 중,

요즘 심심치 않게 내 입에 오르내리는 인물이 레이디 가가.

배철수의 음악캠프에서 빌보드와 영국 차트에서 오르내리던 이름. 으로 처음 접했고,

계속 차트 상위권에 남아있길래, 이 음악의 매력이 도대체 뭐란 말인가..라는 생각에 빠졌었고,

그러다가 지난 번 프로모션 내한으로,

네이버 메인에서 얼굴을 비추더니, 이제는 이슈메이커가 되어 연일 빵빵 터트리신다.

얼마나 오래갈 수 있을까?

이런 의구심을 항상 버리지 못한 채, 요란한 기사들을 즐거이 바라보던 중.

오늘밤 드디어 네이버 인기검색어 1위에 오르셨다는.

성적욕구를 주체하지 못한다고?

밴드 멤버들과 잠자리를 같이 한다고?

3인조 남성 보이밴드와 집단섹스를 즐기고 싶다고?

30대 후반 미중년(?)의 시선마저 빼앗아가는 기사 타이틀들에..

레이디 가가에 대한 인식, 뇌리에 새겨지는 이미지는 더더욱 선정적이 되버리고..

but.

작년에 도서관에서 마돈나의 전기를 읽은 사람인 나로써는,

그런 이미지들로만 이 팝계의 새로운 여신(fiction의 주인공으로서의 여신?)의 등장을 받아들일 수 없겠다.

레이디 가가는 기본적으로 팝 레코딩 아티스트, 즉 팝 가수다.

(이쯤에서 고루하게 가수는 노래를 잘해야... 라는 말을 하려는 건 아니다.)

그러나 우리는 그 사람이 팝계의 여신(계속 좀 걸리긴 하지만,..?)으로 등장하기 까지

어떻게 살아왔고, 어떤 계기로 팝계에 등장했고, 어떤 영향과 문화적 토양에서 성장해왔는지,

한 번쯤은 볼 만하다.

Lady GaGa is a theatrical dance-pop singer/songwriter whose commercial debut single, the international chart-topping smash hit "Just Dance," established her as an up-and-coming superstar upon its release in 2008.  2008년의 성공적인 데뷔... Influenced by flamboyant glam rockers such as David Bowie andFreddie Mercury (indeed, her stage name is drawn from the Queensong "Radio Ga-Ga") as well as '80s dance-poppers such as Madonnaand Michael Jackson, she began playing the piano at a young age and later began writing songs and performing as a teenager. 예상했던 대로, 퀸의 라디오 가가 곡의 영향이 있었다. 데이빗 보위와 프레디 머큐리같은 글램 록커들의 영향을 받았다는 점은 주목해봐야될 필요가 있다. 게다가 싱어 송 라이터의 재주도 갖춰나간 것 같은데, 글램 록커들의 계보를 폄하할 수 있겠나? (물론 어디에서 공인된 계보는 아니지만..ㅜㅜ;;) In 2007 she began to make a name for herself on the downtown Manhattan club scene with a performance art show billed as Lady GaGa and the Starlight Revue (co-featuring Lady Starlight; born Colleen Martin, a DJ and makeup professional), and music industry insiders began to take note.  2007년 부터 뮤지션으로서의 명망을 세운 것 같은데, 다른 사람들에 비하면 매우 빠른 성공가도이다. 사실 이 점이 불안불안한 점이다. 마돈나만 하더라도 전기를 살펴보면, 블론디의 데보라 헤리를 롤 모델(또는 미래의 경쟁자)로 삼고 이러저러한 밴드 생활, 생계를 위한 누드모델에 이르기까지.. 그 바닥을 두루 섭렵하고 등장하였는데, 그러한 쓰디쓴 경험이 만들어준 내공이 갖춰졌을까?라는 의문이.. 물론 오늘 기사에선 파산도 여러 번 했었다고 하긴 하드만. While Lady GaGa was initially signed to Def Jam in 2007, nothing came of that association, and ultimately it was pop-rap superstar Akon who took her under his wing, signing her to his vanity label Kon Live in association with Interscope Records.   Interscope 레이블이었구나. (CD는 구경도 못했으니..ㅜㅜ;), Def Jam은 얼마나 아쉬워하며 이 성공을 바라보고 있을까.. 필시 이유가 있었으리라는 생각도 하지만, 사실 컨셉이 글램머러스한 이 컨셉이 신선하다거나 당시에 음악적 능력이 출중한 백인 여성가수는 아니었을 수도 있으니까.. 후회를 하자면 끝도 없겠다. Akon. 이 분께서 발탁하셨다고 봐야겠다. In addition to working for Interscope as a songwriter, Lady GaGa began preparing the launch of her solo career.  원래는 songwriter 였었다는? 선후관계가 작곡가가 먼저였다면. .. 충분한 작곡 재능이 있다는? Her debut single, "Just Dance," was released to radio in April 2008, and her full-length album debut, The Fame, followed in August. Featuring fellow Akonaffiliate Colby O'Donis, "Just Dance" took much of 2008 to catch on. The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in August, at which time it had already become a massive club hit, but it didn't reach number one until January 2009. 데뷔 곡이 no. 1에 곧바로 오르기는 힘들다.. 확실히.
